Our visionWith great efforts and ambitions, we hope this project can make appropriate changes and contribute to improving the quality of exchange programs in Vietnam. We also believe that ISTEP can boost globally educational cooperation among Vietnamese universities and their counterparts, consequently, lay the foundations for Vietnamese education to reach globally integrated level. Our long-term expectation is to develop education for a sustainable future and a better Vietnamese generation.

Our story
Educational exchange has become an essential trend in the rapidly globalizing world of today. Demands for access to academic and cross-cultural learning are thus also increasing significantly. Over the past 2 decades, a large number of universities in Vietnam have adopted open-door policy to build up cooperation and exchange programs with many leading universities worldwide (e.g. the United States, Australia, Sweden, Japan…). For exchange students, these programs offer them great opportunities to enhance learning or career prospects with international experience, explore another culture, raise their global awareness and broaden their global network as well. For hosting universities, exchange programs not only foster their relationship with other partners, but also improve the quality of their training and education.
Friendship & Science for Health Group (FSH) is a student-based research group whose members are medical students from Hanoi Medical University (HMU). Many of our current and former members have participated in exchange programs of HMU with their counterparts such as Karolinska Institute (Sweden), University of Sydney (Australia), University of Kanazawa (Japan). Understanding the importance and huge benefits of international exchange programs, FSH have initiated ISTEP (Improve Student Exchange Program), to provide supports socially and academically for international students in Vietnam. The first ISTEP team had 7 members: Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Anh (founder and former leader), Ms. Vu Bich Phuong, Ms. Tran Phuong Anh, Ms. Tran Thi Phung, Ms. Pham Thao Nguyen, Ms. Vu Nhat Mai and Mr. Nguyen Phuc Binh (current leader)

Our steering committee
To promote ISTEP, we have worked groups and clubs which are based in HMU and in August 2016, we cooperated with HMU English Club (EC), HMU Club of Intensive Study & Scientific Research (ISSR), English Sharing & Learning Community (ESL) to implement our project at Hanoi Medical University. Together, the four parties formed a steering commitee which will have the overall responsibility for activities of ISTEP project (including website and take-care model) in Hanoi Medical University.
9th December 2016 marks the Letter of Agreement's signing ceremony of ISTEP Project. The Agreement was signed by the leaders and representatives of four parties. The event announces an official collaboration and participation of the four parties in this innovative project, they had been working together since the initial meeting in the summer 2016 with several modules of the project.
